Dr. TJ Ahn
“If you become certified by ABMSP, your presence and authority level will be immediately recognized by the public you serve. MIS is great alternative surgical skillset you can provide your patients. Now is the best time to become board certified and to establish your competitive advantage as well as gain substantial recognition by the MIS community.”
– Dr. TJ Ahn

We are excited to recognize the first of our colleagues to be board certified in Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. TJ Ahn has been an ABMSP member since 2008. He has been board certified in Primary Care and Foot and Ankle Surgery, adding now his new board certification in Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Born in Seoul, Korea in 1970, to a physician, (his mother) and a successful business man (his father), Dr. Ahn became a classic American success story after moving to the US at age 20. Barely speaking English, he became a successful Chicago podiatric physician and surgeon, entrepreneur, coach and author.

Dr. Ahn is passionate about our profession especially as it relates to his passionate interest in minimally invasive foot & ankle surgery (MIFAS). He is now expressing his commitment by inspiring others to become board certified in this vital discipline. This credential declares their expertise and competence, thereby creating a successful evolution of this field to a higher level of practice for all those concerned.

He has recently published an online book “Opt-Out:” How to Take Back Financial Control of Your Private Clinical Practice Without the Hassle of Insurance Companies”. This book is A roadmap for achieving financial freedom from the now typical insurance panel paradigm.

As a Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine honors graduate in 2001, TJ started private practice in 2003. After 10 years of practicing traditional open foot and ankle surgery he became disenchanted with the unsightly scars left behind, in spite of the aesthetic correction of deformity. Knowing that there had to be another way, he then discovered MIS.

Dr. Ahn went to his first cadaver lab in New Orleans in 2014, motivating him to earn his status of Fellow in the Academy of Ambulatory Foot & Ankle Surgery in 2015.

Committed to accelerating his proficiency in MIS Dr. Ahn quickly understood there were not nearly enough available resources and courses. He then devised his own “fast-track” by learning surgical techniques from international experts and recognized senior MIS practitioners, by traveling to over 4o different lecture and practical curriculums on this subject.

By March of 2016 he had successfully performed over 225 Minimally Invasive Foot Surgical procedures. With a desire to share this knowledge, he began teaching Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery at National and Regional conferences and cadaver labs. He also became an Adjunct Surgical Instructor Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine/Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine teaching podiatric medical students since 2017.

Recognizing the education gap that he experienced to gain knowledge and hand’s on MIS skills for professionals already in clinical practice, TJ developed his company dedicated to coaching and consulting healthcare professionals through educational seminars, cadaver labs and one-on one coaching.

Let us welcome Dr. TJ Ahn for being a Champion of Podiatry by becoming the first certificant of ABMSP to become Board Certified in Minimally Foot and Ankle Surgery. We thank him for sharing his excitement and roadmap for success with. everyone who listens to his message.
